Our Available
Pups...
A
note about our adoption donations
*Adoption donations are based on but not limited to: health, age, and
sex of the pup. Adoption donations range from $50.-$750. You may ask
"Why would you charge an adoption fee? Why not just place in a good
home?"
The
answer is: because we rely heavily on these adoption fees in order to be
able to take in ALL Yorkies in need. A
young, healthy dog may cost us $200-400 in vet care, and have many homes
interested in adopting him/her. An older or sick yorkie, or one with
health issues can easily cost $500-1500+ in veterinary expenses. He/she may
require months of foster care for rehabilitation or expensive surgery; yet we can only ask a
minimal adoption fee. Often times these are also the same dogs that
don't receive as many inquires for adopting. Please keep in mind that the adoption donations of younger, healthy
dogs help defray the higher costs of the veterinary care of older,
injured or sick dogs.
We
hope that people looking to adopt through
Yorkies Inc. are
willing to give an opportunity for a better life to ALL of our dogs by
supporting them through adoption fees.
We are a non-profit organization. Without these
adoption donations we would not have the funding to take in all yorkies
in need.
Yorkies Inc.
completely vets every dog we take in. All dogs are groomed given a
complete exam and brought up to date on all vaccines. They are
also given a dental cleanings, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested and any
medical needs and needed surgeries are met before placement.
If you are looking for to adopt to "save money" or "don't want to pay
breeder prices" please check your local shelters. We are only
interested in loving responsible homes that are willing to commit to the
care and up keep of the pup for a lifetime. If you are not willing to
pay the adoption donation now you are likely not to pay for quality food
or to see to the pups health care needs in the future. Remember we are
looking for our pups to become family members and cherished companions
not a convenient impulse purchase.

If
interested in adopting with Yorkies Inc please submit an
adoption application. We always go to applications already on
file when dogs become available. Thank you so much for
considering adoption! |

Onyx

Onyx is a 9 month old male Yorkie who was on his way to being a
show dog when his breeder noticed an issue with his back leg.
Onyx has been diagnosed with leg perthes which is a deformity of
the of the hip joint. The good news is that this can be
medically corrected and Onyx will be able to lead a normal and
happy life.
Onyx had his surgery on 7/13 and is doing well. He is putting
pressure on the leg and able to go on slow leash walks. He will
need to go back to the vets before he can be adopted but we are
hoping to have his home all set for when he is ready. Onyx gets
along well with other dogs, but he loves to be around people all
the time. He wants to be in the same room with you and go where
every you go. Onxy will need work on being housetrained, he is
still a puppy and has not caught on yet..If interested in Onyx please submit an adoption
application. If you have any questions please contact his foster
Mom at kerri@yorkiesinc.com |

Dexter

Dexter is a
sweet little 7.2lbs pure breed Brussels Griffon. He is just a
year old and a dark red rough coat variety. He is being released
by his breeder who had planned on showing him. He has a nice
stocky build and loves to cuddle. Will need some work with house
training but should learn quickly as Griffs are smart pups.
Dexter is up to date on vaccines and has been neutered. He is
also micro-chipped.
If you're looking for a pup
that will entertain, charm and delight you on a daily basis,
this is your guy. They love to run and play on the beach or in
the yard. This breed was featured in the film "As Good As It
Gets" with Jack Nicholson; the dog really was central to the
film plot. Hanging out with these guys, you'll see why pretty
quickly. They are smart, affectionate, playful and curious.
They seem to be speaking to you with their eyes. Brussels Griffons are a very uncommon breed. If interested in adopting Dexter please
submit an adoption application. Any questions email Cathie@yorkiesinc.com

Mucci

Mucci is a 7yo
51/2-6lb male Yorkie. He's shy and loves to be held. He's quiet
and would do well as an only or with another pup. Does well on a
leash. He has also lost some teeth and will be getting a dental
so could lose some more. This is fairly common in the breed. We
will also be getting him neutered, updated on vaccines, heart
worm tested and micro chipped. He's got his summer haircut right
now but he has a beautiful coat if you decide to grow it long.
If interested in adopting Mucci please submit an adoption
application. Any questions please email
Kerri@yorkiesinc.lcom
Update 7/14 During Mucci's dental it was discovered that his
lower right jaw was fractured due to an infection in his teeth
that caused his jaw to loose bone mass. The dental was stopped
and Mucci was brought to a dental specialist. X-rays showed that
the lower right jaw was fractured in two places. His jaw was
wired and he now needs to wear a loose muzzle for the next 4
weeks to keep his jaw in place so it can heal. After 4 weeks he
will go back for another x-ray and hopefully the wire will be
removed at that time. If you would like to become a friend of
Mucci's and help pay for his dental expenses, consisting of
$679, please use the paypal button below. All friends of Mucci

Lady & Gypsy

Lady and Gypsy
are pure bred Mini Schnauzers that
were both born on 9/29/2007. That makes them just under 3 years
old. They have never been separated since birth. They both weigh
approximately 14.5 lbs each and they are both spayed. Gypsy has
more black around her eyes and down her muzzle. Gypsy's muzzle
is slightly narrower than Lady's. Lady is more gray throughout
her face. We call them the twins because if they aren't together
its really hard to tell them apart, especially now that they are
the same weigh. Gypsy is the more outgoing of the pair, with
Lady being the follower.
They both love to snuggle. Gypsy loves to give and receive
kisses. Lady being the shy one, well, you have to work really
hard to get kisses from her, but she will let you snuggle with
her for hours. We are hoping they can be adopted together as
they are a very bonded pair of cutie-pies. A family with kids
and a fenced yard would be ideal. They are into everything. They
want to know everything that is going on. They rarely bark.
However, Lady does always have to know where Gypsy is. They both
love to run and play and they love kids. They ride well in the
car and are leash trained. We have a single split leash for them
that they love. They may need a little refresher on house
training, especially if they are in a new place or are very
excited. They came into Yorkies Inc because their Mom had a
stroke and can no longer care for them. If interested in
adopting please submit an adoption application. Any questions

Tadpole

Tadpole
is our newest special needs puppy. He is just a "Tad" of a puppy
at 1lb and just 9 weeks old. Tad has had an injury to his front
paw and we are hoping that it can be corrected. The injury is a
few weeks old so we are praying something can still be
done....he wasn't old enough to leave him mom before now. He
will be seen by the orthopedic specialist this week. Tad is not
ready to be adopted but if you can help with a donation to his
veterinary expenses and surgery we would be very thankful. All
donators will be listed as a "Friend of Tad" Please use the PayPal button below. Questions please email:
Cathie@yorkiesinc.com
Update 5/13/10:
Tad was seen by the surgeon on Tuesday. We were told that
Tadpole has a congenital dislocation in his elbow. This has made
his wrist contract and twist along with the rest of his front
leg. We were told we could either allow him to grow as is and he
would adjust and learn to walk on three legs, if the front leg
bothered him as he got older we would need to amputate. OR we
could attempt to correct the dislocation with surgery. The
surgery would be to repair the dislocation and set the elbow
with a pin. They would also likely have to set the wrist joint
as well. This may allow him some movement and use of the leg as
he grows. However he is so young and small right now we could
not pursue the surgery right away. Instead the surgeon has
suggested we give him a couple weeks to gain size and strength
and to allow him to get his first course of vaccines prior to
moving forward with surgery. Surgery has been set for May 26th.
Please keep Tad in your prayers.
Update 5/26/10:Tad
is out did well with anesthesia but the surgeon had some
disappointing news. Tadpole's leg is much more deformed than
he originally thought.. Once he started to operate he could
see that it was more twisted than Xray had shown. He was able
to get the elbow aligned and pinned but wrist was much more
problematic as was the shoulder as well. Tad is in a splint
now and will go home tomorrow if all's well. BUT surgeon is
not confident at this time that Tad will gain use of the leg.
We are still hoping for the best and it could easily go either
way....either leg will not stay straight and may pop back out
or if we are very very lucky it may straighten somewhat
as he grows. The vet said he will not know much more now
for a couple of weeks when splint is removed.
Thank you all for your well wishes, prayers and support!
6/23/10:We have good news to
share about Tad!! He was seen today by Dr Kochin who was
thrilled that leg still looks straight and that Tadpole is
just starting to put some weight on it after a week without
splint. He will be kept low key and go for another recheck in
two weeks. But at this point at least it looks...
like he's going to have some use of a now straight leg!! We
are hoping he continues to use the leg more and more each day
and it remains as straight as it looks now. If so he has far
surpassed what was expected.
7/10/10: Tad was seen by the
Vet for a recheck on Thursday. Dr Kochin was excited to see
Tad starting to use the leg quite well. His elbow and
wrist continue to remain straight and he seems to be gaining
strength in the leg. The shoulder does seem to be the most
noticeable now that he's using the leg more. But Dr
Kochin said that something could be done for that later on if
it continued. Tad is still just a Tad at 1.9lbs 4 months old!
Dr Kochin would like another recheck in a month to see how the
leg is coming along as he grows (hopefully )and if we
need another surgery for the shoulder.

Tess & Cody
Meet
Tess Marie and her brother Cody. Their owner is no longer able
to care for them and has made the difficult decision to have us
find them a new forever home. Tess Marie is a female who weighs
about 6lbs and is 7 years old. Cody is 6 years old and weighs
about 10lbs. They have been together a long time and we would
like to keep them together if possible. They love sleeping
together on a pillow (or on your bed) and will often play
together with toys. They are pee pee pad trained but their
current owner feels they could be trained to go outside as they
will when she takes them out for walks. Once vetted Tess and
Cody will be ready for their new home. If you feel you have room
in your heart for two sweet Yorkies please fill out an adoption
application for them. Any questions you can contact their foster

Cupid
Critical Care!
Cupid in the oxygen box
Please help us help Cupid... Cupid is a tiny 6 month old, 2
1/2lb male Yorkie puppy, who is very sick. Cupid came into Yorkies Inc this
weekend because of a collapsed trachea. He was having extreme
difficulty breathing. We brought right in to the emergency vet
where he was diagnosed with a severe case of pneumonia. He is
now in an oxygen tank to help with his breathing because he is
not able to breathe on his own. It is just too hard for the
little guy. Cupid will remain in the oxygen tank while he is
being treated for the pneumonia. His lungs are filled with
fluid. Because of his small size and the severity of the
pneumonia they need to be very aggressive with his treatment
or else he will not make it. He is in Critical Care. If
we can get him through the pneumonia and his lungs have been
cleared they will then be able to look at his trachea to see
what damage there is. Please keep Cupid in your prayers as the
next few days are going to be very critical for him. Cupid's
medical care is going to be very expensive as he is in the
intensive care unit. So far the bill is estimated at $3360.00
Anything you can give to help with Cupid's medical care will
be greatly appreciated. We want Cupid to have the chance to
live a happy and healthy life and we need your help. All
donators will be listed as "Friends of Cupid". Please use the
PayPal button below. Any questions please email Kerri@yorkiesinc.com
Update 2/17/10:The vets are currently trying to wean Cupid
from the oxygen tank to see if he can handle breathing on
his own without the extra support. Please continue to keep
him in your thoughts and prayers. He has a long road ahead
of him. His bill has gone over what we expected due to
needing the oxygen and level of care. We are currently at
4000.00
2/21/10: Cupid is HOME! He was able to go 24 hours without
having to use the oxygen tank so he was able to come home.
He is still a very sick little boy but is on the long road
to recovery. He is on three medications and has
to have three steam showers a day with coupage (tapping of
his lungs) to try and help loosen all
the mucous and fluid in his lungs.
Cupid's vet bill was just at $4000 when he left and we are
not done yet . He will need to go back often for chest
x-rays to see how his lungs are clearing in order to
determine how to proceed. Please continue to keep Cupid in
your prayers even though he is out of the hospital he is
still very sick and fragile.
3/10 Cupid had a small setback this past weekend. He had
to go back down to the ER due to severe diarrhea,
dehydration and refusal to eat. X-rays were taken and
his lungs have not cleared as much as the vets had
hoped. He was put on a new antibiotic and will have to
go back again in a week for another x-ray. The good news
is that his appetite is back and his energy level has
increased. Please continue to keep him in your prayers
as he still has a long road of recovery ahead of him
with many more trips to the vet. 3/21 Cupid went back
to the vets for an x-ray of his lungs to see how they
are clearing. Unfortunately there still has not been
much change in the lungs since he came in. They are
still heavily congested. Another antibiotic was added to
see if this would help. He was also given a cough
suppressant to help with his coughing. Please continue
to keep him in your prayers as he is still a very sick
little guy who is is not improving as quickly as we had
hoped.
4/8 Cupid went to the vets this week for another
x-ray. The good news is that his lungs have finally
begun to clear However, now with the lungs clearing and
being able to see more in the x-rays the vets feel that
there may be something else going on with Cupid besides
pneumonia and his trachea. Cupid is going in this week
for an echocardiogram to look at his heart and also to
see if there are any growths that may be pushing on his
trachea. Please keep Cupid in your thoughts. This is
going to be a costly vet appointment, as he is seeing a
heart specialist, all donations are greatly appreciated.
5/5/10 Cupid saw the heart specialist for an
ultra-sound because of what appeared to be a mass near
his heart. The good news is that his heart is fine,
however his lungs have been severely damaged from the
pneumonia and the mass was really a section of his
damaged lungs. Due to his collapsed trachea Cupid is not
able to fully get rid of the pneumonia and the damage to
his lungs is irreversible. We are going to manage Cupid
medically with antibiotics and supplements as long as we
can. He seems to be responding right now however, he is
still coughing and some days he sounds very congested.
We are also looking into taking Cupid to a specialist
that specializes in the trachea to see if more can be
done to help Cupid. Please continue to keep Cupid in
your thoughts. He is a fighter but he also needs lots of
positive thoughts sent his way and still more medical
care.

Cupid on his way to Tufts
6-4-10 Update: Cupid went to Tufts Veterinary School today for a second
opinion due to the pneumonia not clearing from his lungs. He was seen by their
respiratory specialist. X-rays were taken and Cupid's trachea looks more
collapsed then it did a couple months ago but the lungs are the same. There
is no further damage to the lungs, but they are still congested. Cupid will be
going back tomorrow to have a scope done, using a video camera, of both his
trachea and lungs to see exactly what is going on. They will also collect a
sample of the mucous to determine the best antibiotic he should be on. Cupid
was not strong enough to have this procedure done before. Please keep him in
your thoughts and prayers because it is still risky as does require him to go
under anesthesia. Today was once again a costly vet appointment and tomorrow's
procedure is estimated to cost between $500-$600.
6-21 Update: Cupid continues to have difficulty breathing because of the
severity of his collapsed trachea. After consulting with the specialists at
Tufts we have decided to proceed with a trachea operation to help Cupid be
able to breath again. This operation is risky however without it Cupid will
not have been given a fair chance at a normal life. Right now he is gasping
for every breath. Medications are not working as we had hoped. We are having a
fundraiser for Cupid to raise the funds for this operation. Anyone who donates
a minimum of $15.00 will be mailed a rubber bracelet with "Yorkies Inc." on
the outside and "Cupid" on the inside. We hope that you will wear it and show
your support for Cupid. Including the consultation, tests that were done (to
make sure he was a candidate for the surgery), and the actual surgery we are
looking at a vet bill of $3400. We have already spent over $6000 for Cupid and
are ready to spend more for this surgery but we need your support to do so.
Please consider making a donation towards Cupid's fundraiser to show your
support for a little fighter who needs our help again. If you would like daily
updates on how Cupid is doing during his surgery and recovery time please
become a fan of Yorkies Inc on Facebook. Thank you.
Cupid's Surgery Fund Raiser
UPDATE!!!
Yorkie's Inc. Challenge for Cupid!!!!!
Yorkies Inc has been given a challenge and we need
your help to succeed. One of our generous supporters
has offered to match our donations up to $1500 for
Cupid's surgery! In order for us to meet this
challenge we have to collect a minimum of $1500 from
all of our other supporters. We are almost there with
$1225 in donations, but we still $275 more to win! If
we can do this then Cupid's surgery will be taken care
of. Thank you to all who have already donated and to
those who will be donating to help us win for Cupid!
Update 6/22/10: Thanks to all of you we have already
met the Cupid Challenge presented!! We will continue
our bracelet fundraiser to cover Cupid's previous
expenses and post operative care. Donator's will
continue receive a Yorkie's bracelet for donations
15.00 or more. We want to thank our amazing supporters
for their generosity in helping little Cupid.
Update 6/23/10:Cupid is on his way to Tufts for his
surgery. Due to his difficulty breathing the past
few days Yorkies Inc and his surgeon decided it was
best to get him in sooner than originally planned as
this is putting stress on both his heart and
trachea
Please keep him in your thoughts today.
Update 6/25 Cupid is home! His
surgery went well with no complications. Over the
next week we will see how well he adapts to his new
stent. The stent is approximately 2/3 of his
trachea. He is wheezing some but is no longer
hacking and gasping for air. Please continue to keep
him in your thoughts. The next week is important for
his recovery.
Update: 7/14 It has
now been a couple weeks since Cupid's surgery and he
continues to do well. He still has coughing episodes
at times but nothing like he use to. He is able to
breathe and enjoy life. Cupid is now enjoying being
a puppy. He is always playing with (bugging) his
foster brothers and has recently learned how to
squeak a dog toy. The only concern we have is that
he still sounds congested at times, this is usually
after he has been lying down for a period of time.
We took him for x-rays and the trachea stent looks
great but there is some congestion in his lungs. He
is on a new antibiotic and will go back for x-rays
in a couple of weeks to see if the lungs have
cleared

Chompers

Chompers is a 2 1/2 year old
male Yorkie who weighs about 4lbs. Chompers was surrendered by
his owner due to her not having the time to care for or train
Chompers. He is currently being evaluated by a dog trainer for
behavioral issues. While Chompers was very lovable to his
prior owner and is to his current foster Mom he becomes very
protective of his "owner" and will bark, growl, nip and even
attempt to bite someone who comes near her while in the house.
Chompers responds well to positive reinforcement, such as
being given a treat, from someone and takes correction well
from his foster Mother such as a little squirt from a water
bottle or the stay command. However his new home will need to
work further with his training and reinforcements on a
consistent basis.
We are looking for a one person household for Chompers.
Ideally this home would have prior experience working with
terriers, up for the commitment, a fenced in yard as Chompers
loves to run and explore outside, and does not have children
visit the house on a consistent basis. His new home must be
willing to continue to take Chompers to behavioral training.
One other dog in the in the house would be fine as he likes to
play with other dogs. Chompers loves to play with squeaky
toys, cuddle on the couch, and go for walks. He does very well
in the car but will bark at people when going through a drive
through. He is also house-trained, but would need
reinforcement in his new home.
12/20 Chompers has begun to really play with the other dogs in
the house. Since this has happened he seems to be more relaxed
and comfortable. He is always trying to get one of them to
play with him and when that fails he grabs a toy or a chew
bone. Chompers is still being protective of his foster Mom
however, the intensity has decreased. If he is very familiar
with the other person visiting and they have given him some
treats or played toys with him he is much better with them and
will not go after them. He may bark at them but this seems to
be more out of fear and being unsure.
1/11 Chompers went to the Animal Rescue League for an
evaluation. Dr. Marder felt that much of Chomper’s behavioral
issues were due to fear. The goal of his training is for
Chompers to begin to realize that he does not need to be
afraid of people. This consists of a lot of positive
reinforcement from people when they enter the home and
corrections only from his foster Mom. Chompers is responding
well to this however he still has his moments. At those times
Chompers is kept on a leash which is working well or confined
to a room when he cannot be watched. Chompers is beginning to
respond well to stay command.
2/23 Update: Chompers continues to make
improvement. He is tolerating visitors to the house and
beginning to realize that they will give him treats. He is
fine with his foster Mother's good friend coming over to visit
on a regular basis and does not need to be on a leash. He
however still needs work when it is someone he has never met
before, for this we do keep him on a leash. Dr. Marder feels
that Chompers is doing well and is ready to be adopted by that
special person. This special person will live alone, have a
fenced in yard, and lots of love to give Chompers. Chompers
loves to play with toys, go for rides in the car, and to
cuddle with you at night. You will also need to be committed
to Chompers and his continued training and learning. If you
feel you are that special person please contact his foster
Mom.
3/12 Chompers went to the groomers and
was excellent. Once his foster Mom was out of site he gave
the groomers kisses and even rolled over for a belly rub.
Chompers has also been going to doggie daycare one day a
week and has had no issues. The staff are able to pick him
up, pat him and carry him to his foster Mom with no
problems. He seems to enjoy running and playing with the
other dogs at daycare. The only time we are seeing any major
issues is when Chompers is with his foster Mom and someone
else that he does not know very well. He then becomes
protective of his foster Mom.
7/14 Chompers is still looking for the perfect forever home.
Chompers continues to improve. Chompers has become a very
happy dog who loves to play with other dogs and squeaky
toys. He is also always excited when his foster Mom comes
home. He does a little dance till she picks him up. He also
is one of the first ones at the door when it is time to go
for a walk. He is now fine with four different people that
visit his foster Mother on a pretty regular basis. It may
take him a few minutes to warm up but then he is okay with
them and will go over to them to be picked up to have his
belly rubbed. His foster Mother no longer needs to really
use a squirt bottle to stop his barking or growling. All he
needs is to hear a sharp "no bark" and he stops and comes
over to her. He is even taking treats from strangers at the
dog park. Chompers is doing well and we feel he is ready for

trust issues with strangers. Because of this he will

We
thought with the recent Liver Shunt pups we should give you all more
background on this dreadful condition that is become more prevalent
in our beloved breed. Below is a link to some success stories
including Bella who came into
Yorkies Inc in early February
2006. She is
now known as "Paisley" Please take the time to read her story and
that of the other Liver Shunt Survivors. Through this link you can
also find other links for more info on Liver Shunt's and what it
means to the pup and the owner. We'd like to thank a good friend
Stephen Glass for featuring Paisley and getting the word out about
Liver shunts.
